The Goddess Line: A Patchwork Origin Story

If you’ve ever experienced our original Goddess Line, you know the feeling of being lit up from the inside out wearing these garments of pure art. Each and every patch from upcycled vintage saris holds a story woven together with intention and love. The elegant silk patchwork is the signature mark of our Goddess Line, but know that each piece is also lined with vintage cotton sari on the inside, making these styles fully reversible. Pure magic!

The Story Behind The Goddess Line

A couple years ago our partners (and friends) in India wanted to create a one-of-a-kind custom garment to honor and show their appreciation for Krista (our CEO/founder/visionary). They surprised her and sent the most stunning, handcrafted patchwork kimono as a gift... and so the beautiful story of this line began.

Krista expressed how she felt like a goddess adorning herself with this gorgeous garment and decided she wanted everyone in our community to be able to experience the same feeling as she did in wearing these special pieces. The Goddess line was birthed out of a creative, heartfelt gift and out of a heart for people. For people in India who desired more job opportunities and for people here in the states to feel both comfortable and beautiful in the clothing they adorn themselves with. From my personal experience, you can truly feel those sentiments poured into every design in this dreamy collection.

Making a Difference Across the Globe

As you've probably heard us express, this is one of the most intricate lines here at Kantha Bae. It requires up to 242 upcycled saris to create a a batch of these designs, all double-layered with both cotton on one side and the signature silk Goddess patchwork on the other. All of the patches are individually hand-placed and stitched together with love and intention.

Even the scrap pieces that are too small to use in creating any other garment are sustainably used here in the patchwork patterns you see to ensure nothing goes to waste.

Through this beautiful process, 300 jobs are provided in the village we partner with in India. All with safe work environments, fair wages and the opportunity to work close to their families doing something they truly love.

Caring for your Goddess Pieces

The question we all want to know when buying a cherished piece of clothing. Like with the pieces you already know and love from KB, we always recommend hand washing + hanging to dry to get the most life out of your pieces. However, in a pinch, we have also had success in washing on a cold gentle cycle in a delicates bag and then hanging to dry. Fluff lightly in the dryer on low heat if a refresh or fluff is needed. As a warning... be prepared to be stopped on the street when you rock your goddess wear out and about!
